Pokhara, The ruling party Nepali Congress has protested against the party split ordinance brought by the Nepali government. The cabinet meeting held on Tuesday has brought an ordinance on the division of political parties so that the number of parties in the Central Committee or the parliamentary parties can be increased to 20 percent. Earlier, in the Political Parties Act, it was mentioned that 40 percent number would be mandatory in the Central Committee and Parliamentary parties for party division. In the ordinance brought to amend this act, provision has been made to recognize the split in the Central Committee or the parliamentary party if it has 20 percent number. The ordinance brought by the government has created a wave in the opposition party CPN-UML. UML has strongly condemned Madhav Nepal for bringing the ordinance to make it easier for him to split the party. Voices against the ordinance have been heard not only from the opposition but also from the ruling party. Dr. Shekhar Koirala has expressed dissatisfaction over the ordinance on social media. He writes, An ordinance on political parties may have been introduced to facilitate the running of the government, but the ordinance does not support the idea of running the state. The government had to be proactive in passing the budget with amendments and reforms from the parliament. This mistake was made by the Prime Minister. This is not the culture of the Congress. Similarly, youth leader Pradip Poudel also termed the ordinance as unconstitutional. He writes - We were in opposition yesterday when Oli brought the ordinance by deceiving the parliament. He did wrong, we retaliated. The ordinance brought by the government after concluding the parliamentary session today is no different from yesterday's trend. Covering up anyone who commits unconstitutional acts is an attack on democracy and the constitution. However, due to intense public pressure, the Oli government was forced to withdraw the ordinance. Now, the Deuba government is moving ahead with the same controversial ordinance prepared by the previous Oli government. The government has chosen the path of ordinance by ending the parliamentary session.
